Race Conditions

Liberation at Richmond unfolded under cold, overcast Karoo skies, with temperatures between 6°C and 8°C and a 14.5 km/h wind out of the west-southwest, cloud cover holding heavy through the release as pigeons climbed into a supportive cross-tailwind.

By the midway point near the Free State border, conditions had eased to 11°C–12°C under thinning cloud, wind shifting west to northwest at 11–13 km/h, a cross-tailwind carrying the pigeons on toward Bloemfontein without any restrictive headwind drag.

Pigeons reached Bloemfontein under a high winter cloud deck, temperatures climbing to 17°C–18°C with a 10–11 km/h northwesterly wind.
