CPL Race 5 Report: Stephen Ferreira Aces Leeu Gamka 557km

Central Provincial Loft Race 5 Yearlings 557km, Ferreira Hokke claimed the win, while Shahzad Family Loft topped the Velocity News Fancier of the Race and Marais Brothers topped the Follow Up Ranking. Marais Brothers takes Pigeon of the Week, Barlu leads the Ace Ranking to round out the week.

Race 5 Yearlings

Central Provincial Loft's Race 5 Yearlings released from Leeu Gamka over 557km, with 724 pigeons basketed across 218 fanciers.

Liberation brought cold conditions near 10°C under mostly clear skies with cloud cover below 20%, and a light westerly-to-northwesterly breeze around 11 km/h gave the pigeons a helpful tailwind as they turned northeast toward the Free State. By the race's midpoint near Colesberg, temperatures had lifted to roughly 14°C under partly cloudy skies near 40-50% cover, but an east-southeasterly wind strengthening to 27-31 km/h pushed the pigeons into a stiff headwind through the central Karoo. Conditions eased approaching Bloemfontein, where a gentle east-northeasterly breeze of 6-10 km/h and a mild 19°C greeted the birds under increasingly cloudy skies near 67% cover.

Looking Ahead

Ferreira Hokke's win sets the tone for Central Provincial Loft's Race 5 Yearlings, but it's Marais Brothers who leaves the strongest mark on the week, topping both the Follow Up Ranking and Pigeon of the Week. Shahzad Family Loft's Velocity News Fancier of the Race performance points to real consistency building in that loft. Whether any of them can carry that momentum into next week's race remains to be seen.
