Auction Guide Part 3

In Part 1, we looked at race results - who placed the most pigeons in the Top 10, 25, and 50 of each race. In Part 2, we shifted to consistency, looking at which fanciers kept showing up in the Velocity News Fancier of the Race, Follow Up, and Pigeon of the Week rankings. Part 3 closes out the series with the metric most fanciers check first at auction: Ace Pigeon Rankings.

Marlbank One Loft splits its Ace Pigeons into three separate rankings, each ordered by average speed:

• Sprint Ace - average speed across the four shorter-distance races (Hotspot 1 Winburg through Hotspot 4 Springfontein, 215km–444km)
• Marathon Ace - average speed across the four longer-distance races (Hotspot 5 Colesberg through the Richmond Final, 515km–655km)
• Overall Ace - average speed across the full season, all eight races combined

For each of the three Ace Rankings, we've built three leaderboards - Top 25, Top 50, and Top 100 - counting how many of a fancier's pigeons placed within each ranking. Each ranking shows the fancier's actual list of achieved Ace positions, so buyers can see at a glance not just how many pigeons qualified, but what position each one was.

This is where the season's two very different demands come into focus. A pigeon that dominates Sprint Aces has proven it can hold blistering pace over the shorter, faster races - the kind of speed buyers want for early-season success. A pigeon that dominates Marathon Ace has proven something harder: it can hold that same edge across 500+ km when the race thins out and only the strongest birds are still competitive. And a fancier appearing across all three rankings - Sprint, Marathon, and Overall, is showing a loft that's producing birds built for the whole season, not just one distance.
